The VA hospital (Veteran Affairs) pay system for all workers, including the physicians, is in the form of predecided federal base - salary tables that are prepared annually for each year. This table is basically a matrix of grades and Steps of service in each grade. In addition physicians also receive a 'special pay' i.e. based on specialty, years of experience, term of service at VA hospitals, production, etc.
In the table itself, there are 15 'Grades' of appointment and 10 Levels for each Grade. For example, in the Dallas-Fortworth, TX region, the highest base pay for
Grade 15 and Step 10 is set at $142,000/- for the Year 20010. But actual pays will be higher and different for different specialties and experience.
